When life gives you Meyer lemons, figure out how to make limoncello!
Faced with a rapidly growing backyard orchard and inspired by a visit to the Amalfi coast in southern Italy, Allison Achauer learned how to turn her Meyer lemons into limoncello.
Further experimentation gave rise to such unusual concoctions as spiced mulberry liqueur, fig rum, and rosemary-lavender vodka. She is always searching for new ways to use, preserve, and share the fruits, flowers, and herbs that flourish in Los Angeles’ mediterranean climate.
Discoveries from cooking led to new ideas for drinks, and vice versa, leading to a kitchen that is part science lab and part homestead. She is also an accomplished food and portrait photographer, with images in the Getty Images collection.
